Linda Chance Jenkins, 72, died Sunday evening at 5:25 pm in Greenville, SC while in hospice care, with her 3 children closely by her side.
Linda was born as Linda Carol Chance in Augusta, Georgia on April 3, 1947. She graduated as Valedictorian in her 8th and 12th grades at SGA high school in Sardis, GA. She attended nursing school and later returned to her true passion English composition and writing, becoming a Reporter and Society Page Editor for the True Citizen newspaper in Waynesboro, G.A. She fondly referred to many social functions and societal events which she reported on during her time there. After marriage to her husband of 34 years, Evans Mitchell Jenkins, Sr., she became a dedicated mother to 3 children whom she adored. She was as an exceptionally devoted and loving mother who chose to forgo her career and take on her role as homemaker.
Linda will always be known as an extraordinary southern cook. She had a natural way of drawing people to her through her gentle, kind and loving manner. One friend put it best, "It's been said that, ‘you may not remember everything someone said, but you remember how they made you feel,' and she always made me feel great." Linda will be dearly missed as a beloved mother, daughter, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her three children; Michele Jenkins Lear, Evans Mitchell Jenkins, Jr. of Greenville S.C. and Melissa Ruth Eisenberg of Wilmington, N.C.; 7 grandchildren; Natalia Carolina Jenkins, Evan Benjamin, Cameron Grace and Alexander Franklin Lear, Sofia Elizabeth Jenkins all of Greenville, S.C. and Ava Claire and Ellison Rose Eisenberg of Wilmington, N.C. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who were near and dear to her heart.
