Joan Flakes Bell

Joan Flakes Bell, 75, entered into rest Tuesday, May 17, 2022. She was born in Millen to the late Josie and John Flakes. She was of the Baptist faith. She loved to read and was a very kind and humble person. She retired from the Augusta Housing Authority after 35 years of service. Joan was a family oriented person and loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Bell; and two, brothers, James Arnold Flakes and John Ellis Flakes.

She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Flakes Griner of Waynesboro; a son, Kylie Bell (Lydia) of Alexander; six grandchildren, Kristen Haley Coleman (Tyler) of Waynesboro, Trenton Griner of Waynesboro Colin Bell of Alexander, Emily Bell of Alexander, Ashlynn Bell Utley (Mike) of Keysville, Brittany Hood of Richmond Hill, and Jessica Hood DeLoach (Jordan) of Ludowici; four great granddaughters, Zoey Coleman, Piper Coleman, Willow Coleman, and Chloe Bell Utley; a sister, Linda Flakes; a brother, Russell Flakes (Judy) of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Saturday, May 21 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Sunday, May 22 in the DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Dixon officiating.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Coleman, Russell Flakes, Jr., Jason Flakes, Ryan Flakes, Josey Flakes, Billy Friese, Ben Harris, and Josh Blackstone.

Remembrances may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 1220 George C. Wilson Dr., Augusta, GA 30909.
