Sardis, GA - Willie Mae "Bill" Bargeron, 97, entered into rest Tuesday, June 1, 2010.Born in the Rockville community near Girard, she had been a resident of Sardis for most of her life and a member of Sardis United Methodist Church for 76 years.She retired as an English teacher/librarian after 46 years of service.During her teaching career, she was the recipient of the Star Teacher Award numerous times.She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma.She was also a charter member of the Sardis Chapter 382 OES and a former member of the Ladies Shriner Auxiliary.She was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Sturdivant, and a sister, Rhoda Dickey.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen Brigham; her grandson, Shelton Brigham, both of Sardis; twin sister, Lillie Mae "Lill" Chandler of Waynesboro; brother, James Sturdivant (Gwen) of Sylvania; sister, Sue Erwin (Stan) of Smithville, NC; sister-in-law, Evon Waters of Sylvania; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 4, at Sardis United Methodist Church.Rev. Steve Sirmons will officiate.Interment will follow at Sardis Baptist Cemetery.Pallbearers will be George Mobley, Jimmy Sturdivant, Steve Reddick, Jay Hollingsworth, Wayne Hickman, and Wesley Sirmons.
