William A. Jernigan, 86, of South Hill, VA entered into rest Tuesday, May 19, 2015. He was born in Dillon, SC on January 19, 1929, to the late Lyde Miller Jernigan, Sr. and Lena Gainey Jernigan. He proudly served his country for 22 years in the US Navy. William served in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He loved all aspects of the military, gardening, and reading. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alton Jernigan and Lyde Jernigan, Jr. "Sonny"; and two sisters, Margaret Mabrey and Mildred Burke.
He is survived by three children, Roxanne Tate, Regina Mesmer, and William Jernigan, Jr.; six grandchildren; a brother, John Jernigan; a sister, Clara Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held 11am Saturday, May 23 at Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Earl Saxon will officiate.
