Waynesboro, GA – Mr. William "Bill" Tallent, age 88, entered into rest Monday, December 26, 2016, at Burke Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Bettye Neal Tallent.
He was born in Lumber City, GA on March 22, 1928 to the late William Roscoe and Salliemae Tallent. He was a resident of Sparta until he moved to Waynesboro in 1955. He owned and operated Dollar Down Stores in Waynesboro and Sparta and owned Bill's Car Wash in Waynesboro. He has been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1955 and has served on the Deacon board for many years and sang in the choir until two weeks ago. Mr. Bill was a member of the Spares and Pairs Sunday School Class, the Ball Club, Primetime Singers at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church in Augusta, Barber Shop Quartet, and Senior Friends of Augusta.
Survivors include his three children, William Neal Tallent of Martinez, Sally Tallent Oglesby (Dale) of Girard, and Laura Tallent Johnson of Waynesboro; six grandchildren, Chris Tallent, Billy Tallent, Jessica Tallent, Ashley Oglesby, Randall Johnson, and Allison Johnson; and five great grandchildren
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 29, 2016, at First Baptist Church with Dr. G. Al Wright, Jr. and Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior starting at 10:00 am.
