Waynesboro-Mr. William J. "Bill" Owens 84, entered into rest Thursday, September 14, 2017. A native of Wilburton, Pennsylvania, born January 3, 1933 to the late Issac and Emma Owens. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, holding rank of Sergeant, after his military service he moved to Waynesboro in 1953. He retired from the Corp of Engineers at Fort Gordon after 30 years of service. In 1990, he became the Building Inspector for the City of Waynesboro, later in 1995 he was the Building Inspector for Burke County and from 2009 until present, was yard and pool boy. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. Throughout his life he was Proud to be an American and was always proud to have served his country.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Allen Owens and his daughter, Gloria Daphne Cooper.
Surviving are, his daughters, Donna Bailey and husband Steve of Vidette, Brenda Miser, Sandra Stewart and husband Mickey, Kathy Owens and Tammie Hayes and husband Jerry all of Waynesboro; a special lady, Trisha Ganus of Waynesboro; his sisters, Jean Korn of Ridgley PA., Peach Lackus of Rehoboth Bch, DE, Linda Whalen of Glenolden, PA; his grandchildren, Jack Bailey, Derick Miser, Chris Miser, Janna Miser, John Paul Cates, Maggie Nehlsen, Chris Stewart; his great grandchildren, Ragan Bailey, Kaydence Miser, McKenlei Miser, Ames Stewart, Allie Stewart and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, September, 16, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will 3 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Friendship United Methodist Church with the Reverend Sam Wilder officiating.
Burial will follow in the Allen Family Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be his sons-in law and his grandchildren.
