Virginia Almeida Godbee

Virginia Almeida Godbee, 99, of Sardis GA, entered into rest on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Stevens Park Health & Rehab Center, Augusta, GA. She would have turned 100 in September and still maintained the sharpest mind and memory! A native of Warwick, Rhode Island, she came to Sardis in 1947, hometown of her husband Harry Jr. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waynesboro, GA. She was the church’s organist for many years and loved her Lord & church dearly! She was a retired bookkeeper from Millhaven Plantation Company in Screven County, GA. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Godbee, Jr.; her parents, Manuel Almeida and Mary Lima Almeida; her brother, Augustus Almeida; her sister, Delia A. Manzi; her son-in-law, R. David Hillis; and her great-granddaughter, Brittani Young.

Survivors include her daughters, Diane G. Hillis of Jonesboro, GA, and Elizabeth G. Jackson and husband Larry of Girard, GA; a son, Thomas (Tommy) E. Godbee of Dalton, GA; five grandchildren, Teresa H. Young and husband Scott, Richard Hillis, Patricia H. Nyman and husband Walt, Dominee J. Thomas and husband Johnny, and Jason Jackson; and six great-grandchildren, Haley Young, Jacob Hillis, Tucker Nyman, Auburn Nyman, Dylan Thomas, and Megan T. Martin and husband Zach.

A Rosary Prayer Service will be held at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home, 220 E. 6th. Street, Waynesboro, GA, on Friday, June 21 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in the chapel. After the Rosary Prayer Service, the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45. a.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 115 South Liberty St., Waynesboro, GA, at 11:30 a.m. with Father John Wright officiating. Interment will be at the Sardis Baptist Cemetery, Sardis, GA, at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be grandsons Jason Jackson, Dylan Thomas, Tucker Nyman, Jacob Hillis, Scott Young, and Zach Martin. If you desire, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.

Virginia’s family is deeply grateful to long time friend Tina Lane, Administrator of Stevens Park Health and Rehab Center, Augusta, GA., and former Administrator of Brentwood Health & Rehab Center, Waynesboro, GA, and to her amazing staff and caregivers at both facilities. Their love, patience, and willingness to please and assist our mother and grandmother will always be remembered and sincerely appreciated!
