Verlan Harrison Young

Verlan Harrison Young, 91, entered into rest Thursday, August 10, 2023. She was born in Florala, AL to the late Laura Leslie and O.C. Harrison and has been a longtime resident of Burke County. She attended Green’s Cut United Methodist Church, where she was a member of The Sonshine Club. Verlan enjoyed reading, quilting, watching Westerns, and College Football. She enjoyed playing and visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Ellis.

She is survived by three children, Steve Young (Etta) of Buckhead, Lynne Griffin (Tony) of Greenville, NC, and Kaye Sessions (Lee) of Monticello; five grandchildren, Stephen Young, Jr. (Meghan) of Athens, Laurah Walker (William) Fort Myers, FL, Linda Thompson (Jake) of Charlotte, NC, Karen Poulin (Jeremy) of Markleeville, CA, and Matthew Sessions (Kali) of Roswell; four great grandchildren, Griffin, Harrison, Wyatt, and Lylah; a sister, Myrtice Simms of Bonifay, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Tuesday, August 15 in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Green’s Cut United Methodist Church.
