Augusta, GA - Vance N. Strickland, 61, entered into rest on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at his residence.He lost his third battle with colon cancer which he had for over two and a half years.Vance was born on July 19, 1947 in Monroe, Louisiana to the late Amos Newton Strickland and Juanita Anne Holmes Strickland.He lived in Augusta from 1956-1964, and in July 2007 he came back to Augusta to help take care of his aged and ill mother until she passed away. He was an actor who spent most of his adult life in Hollywood. He had bit parts in the TV series "Friends", and in several movies including: "Independence Day" and "The Chamber".
He is survived by three children, Joseph Strickland, of TX; David Strickland, of MS; and Jason Strickland, of CA; three brothers, Ronnie Strickland (Hattie), of Atlanta; Ray Holmes (Glenda), of Augusta; and Rick Holmes (Jennifer), of Richmond, VA; 5 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2008, at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Rd., Martinez, Ga. 30907.
