Waynesboro, GA - Thomas "Tom" Edgar Johnson, 85, entered into rest Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center after an extended illness.He was born on October 8, 1924 in Burke County to the late Edgar Arlington Johnson and Reba McGrady Johnson.He was a life-long resident of Burke County where he farmed for many years and later was a Baliff at the Burke County Courthouse.He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro where he was Deacon Emeritus.He was also a veteran of the United States Army Air Force.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Florrie Daniel Johnson; a sister, Edna Johnson Frey; and a brother, Stanley "Jack" Johnson.

He is survived by a brother, Frank Tinley (Ann) of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Mary Alice Lewis of Mt. Airy, NC and Brenda McBride of Waynesboro; sister-in-law, Willie Johnson of Vidette, GA; brother-in-law, Richard Frey of Homosassa, FL; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 7, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 8, at First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro.Rev. Jim Knight will officiate.Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.Active Pallbearers will be his nephews:Brian Frey, Frank Lewis, Grady Lewis, Clem Johnson, Bill Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Rett McBride, and Chip Tinley.Honorary Pallbearers will be the deacons and elders of First Presbyterian Church. The family and active pallbearers are asked to assemble at the home of Brenda McBride by 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
