Thomas Wilson Cullen

It is with great remembrance that the family of Thomas Wilson Cullen Sr., 83, announce his passing on Tuesday February 13th 2024, peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones. Thomas was born in Sardis Georgia on February 11th 1941, to Wyatt and Ida Lee Cullen. He spent his childhood and adolescence surrounded by many sibling, cousins, and friends exploring back roads of Burke County. Thomas was a precocious young man, with good looks, and unrelenting charm. He danced his way into the hearts of everyone who met him.

Thomas was an ambitious and a self-made man. Learning from humble beginning, he put himself through college and found his trade as an electrician, working 44 years before retirement. Of this, he was very proud. Thomas loved woodworking and building things with his hands. He also loved being outdoors, singing and playing his guitar, and retelling stories of his youth to anyone who would listen. Most important, Thomas adored his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Thomas is preceded in death by parents, Wyatt and Ida Lee Cullen; his siblings, Wyatt, Marie “Dena”, Lucille, Gladys, Frances, Juanita, William “Billy”, Bernice, and Jackie; and his granddaughter, Madison Davis. He is survived by his wife Barbara Cullen; his children, April M. Cullen, Thomas W. Cullen Jr. (Joshua), Benjamin (Melanie) Davis, and Terri (Benjamin) Sommer; his grandchildren, Aiden Davis, Finnegan Cullen, Elijah Cullen, and Elowen Cullen; and his siblings, Geraldine Stokes and Hazel Cullen.

A special thank you to his wife, Barbara Cullen, and the many caregivers who supported Thomas in his final years, affording him the opportunity to live in his home until the end with grace and dignity.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00pm Friday, February 16 at Sardis Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Sardis Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Koss, Tommy Bristow, Christopher Masters, Nicholas Mock, Stephen Troup, Mario Ellison, and Donald Reeves.

In lieu of flowers donation can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
