Mr. Terry Franklin Syms, Sr. “PaPa” the son of the late Frank and Pearl Jenkins Syms entered into eternal rest at his residence on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.He was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County and grew up in the McBean area. He was a devoted member of Green’s Cut Methodist Church, a graduate of Waynesboro High School and furthered his education at Southern Technical Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. After returning to his home in McBean he began his lifelong career of Farming and in 1967 he began his 42 year career with Continental Can Paper Company which later became International Paper. He was extremely proud of his Azalea Gardens on Lake Pearl Road named in memory of his mother. He was known as the “Candy Man” for many years and later the “Ice Cream Man” using a 1929 John Deere Ice Cream churn.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Constance Kuhlman.
Surviving are, his wife and best friend Jane Glisson Syms, his sons, Terry F. Syms Jr. and Chad Syms and wife Tara, his step-daughter, Melissa J. Gibbs and husband Dr. Chris Gibbs and his stepson Walton “Bud” North III; his brother Wayne Syms and wife Jill; his grandchildren, Connor Syms, Claire Syms, Chloe Syms, Joshua Stafford, Madalyn Stever and husband Gavin and his great granddaughter Olivia Jane Stever.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 29, 2024 in the DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jerry Sharpe and Greg Coursey officiating with burial in Burke Memorial Gardens. The Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Remembrances may be made to Green’s Cut Methodist Church, P.O. Box 264 Waynesboro. Ga. 30830
Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Connor Syms, Joshua Stafford, Gavin Stever, nephews Troy Smith, Warren Glisson and friends Joe Taylor, Allan Bragg and Scott Gay.
