Sonya Wynette Hillis

Sonya Wynette Hillis, 52, entered into rest Monday, July 10, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Platka, FL and has been a longtime resident of Burke County. She was of the Baptist faith and worked as a mail carrier for many years. Sonya’s favorite holiday was Christmas and loved hosting guests who were in town for the Master’s. She loved the Georgia Bulldogs, her cat, Hope, and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia and Ralph Hillis; and her nephew, Christian Hillis.

She is survived by two children, Rick Jones (Missy) and Ashley Neely (Charlie); four grandchildren, Madison Jones, Miley Jones, Lilah Neely, and Luke Neely; her grandfather, Miller Etterle; a brother, Bubba Hillis; and a sister, Tonya Leidy (Ken).

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for all of Sonya’s caretakers for the past 10 years.
