Sherri Cochran Cates went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2017, next to her loving husband, Doug.
Sherri was born in Wadley, GA to the late William and Christine Johnson, Jr. She was a lifelong resident of Burke County. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro and the Spares and Pairs Sunday School Class. Sherri loved her time serving the people of Burke County. In addition, she cherished the friendships she made with so many beloved people in the judicial system. Sherri retired as Burke County Clerk of Superior Court after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Georgia Superior Court Clerk's Cooperative Authority. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bo Cochran.
Surviving are her two daughters, Lyn Golden and husband Jeff of Millen and Katie Taylor and husband Mark of Millen; a granddaughter, Ashlee Smith and fianc, Lonnie Pope of Guyton; two brothers, Gary Dean Johnson and wife Frances of Vidette and William Kenneth Johnson (Donna) of Greens Cut; a sister, Cindy Peneranda and husband Danny of Maryland; a beloved friend, Daisy Brown of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, she's survived by Doug's four sons, Doug and wife Jacqueline, Paul and wife Julie, Pete and wife Texas, and Daniel and wife Becky; his twelve grandchildren, Redding and wife Lina, John and wife Susie, Charles, John Paul, Baxter, Taylor, Mills, Nancy Carolyn and husband Kyle, Mariah, Peter, Caroline, and Ben; and his four great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be at noon, December 9, at First Baptist Church of Waynesboro with Dr. G. Al Wright, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. until the start of the service.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School Class.
