Sheila Odom Jenkins

April 29, 1968 — December 5, 2022

Sheila Odom Jenkins, loving wife, devoted mother & Mammie, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, December 5th 2022, at the age of 54. Sheila was the daughter of James William Odom & Juanita Wilson Odom and was raised in north Burke County. She was married to her husband of 36 years, Frank Leslie Jenkins III, and they resided in Sardis, Ga. Early on, she taught at Crossroads Christian School and Burkehaven Christian School for several years. Sheila was a member of Sardis Baptist Church & faithfully served in many areas. Throughout the years, she voluntarily served as choir director, church pianist, and a member of various committees, including Children and Youth ministries. Two of her favorite ministries at Sardis Baptist were Vacation Bible School, which she directed for 23 years, and Operation Christmas Child (OCC). Her efforts for OCC led to thousands of shoeboxes being packed to be sent to underprivileged children around the world, which contained Christmas gifts and the message of the Gospel. Sheila was currently positioned as Church Secretary and volunteered as a member of the praise team. She had a passion for singing, traveling, and her family. One of her greatest joys in life was to go on mission trips to spread the message of Jesus, and she was able to serve on mission trips to the Dominican Republic, San Francisco, Belize, Kentucky, and Alaska. By far, Sheila’s most important mission field was her home where she raised and devoted her life to her four children and two grandchildren. She was known by her family and friends as a generous, loving, and selfless Christian woman.

She is survived by her husband, Les Jenkins; three daughters, Jenni Jenkins Lairscy (Joe), Jessi Jenkins O’Connor (T.J.), and Jaimee Jenkins Stuart (Dillon); a son, Joseph Leslie Jenkins (Grace); two grandchildren, Brynn Lairscy and Cort Lairscy; and a third, Baylor Grey O’Connor, due this Spring; her mother, Juanita Odom; sister, Michelle Woods (Joe); brother, Tony Odom; sister-in-law, Phyllis Jenkins; brothers-in-law, Barry Jenkins and Albert Jenkins (Ruth); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, James Odom; brother, Jimmy Odom; and in-laws, Leslie and Annette Jenkins.
