Sardis, GA - Sgt. Mike Johnson, 60, father, law enforcement officer, and avid outdoorsman, entered into rest on Saturday, February 19, 2011.He was born on December 28, 1950 in Louisville, GA to the late Cleveland and Margaret Johnson.He was a law enforcement officer since he was 21 following in his family's chosen career.He retired from Waynesboro Police Department in March of 2010 after 17 years with the department.He returned to law enforcement as a Bailiff with the Burke County Sheriff's Department.He was a member of Spring Branch Sportsman Club.He dedicated his off-time to the pursuit of hunting and fishing.His co-workers said it best when he was described as a hard worker and a good mansomeone who loved to hunt and fish.If not in a law enforcement uniform, he was in his secondary uniform of camouflage.
He is survived by his wife, Tracey; his son, Ellis; his daughter, Krys, all of Sardis; his fishing and hunting partner, Dean Jockel; his aunt, Christine Nasworthy of Swainsboro, GA; other relations and his extended family of the law enforcement community.
The Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home with Chaplain William E. Sexton officiating.Honorary pallbearers will be all law enforcement officers.The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
