Sevena Lively Weis

Sevena was born in Shell Bluff and attended Waynesboro schools. After graduating from high school, she met Edward, who was stationed at Camp Gordon, and they married and moved to Wheeling, IL to be near his family. In 1965, Sevena and Edward moved back to Shell Bluff, into her childhood home, where they raised their nine children.When their youngest child began school, Sevena worked as a teacher's aide at Waynesboro Elementary School, later moving to Blakeney Elementary School, and Waynesboro High School, inspiring many students with her compassionate love of learning.Sevena loved history and was a long-standing member of both the Margaret Jones #27 United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Edmund Burke #3027 Daughters of the American Revolution, holding several offices and serving on numerous committees. She was one of thirteen re-organizers of the UDC chapter and was honored in May as a real Granddaughter of the Confederacy. She was also an avid reader and instilled in her children her love for reading. In her later years, she enjoyed frequent trips to the Burke County Library. Sevena was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waynesboro, GA, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.She was very dedicated to her children's religious upbringing, and she faithfully attended weekly rosary services. In 2011, she and Edward were honored as the longest active family at Sacred Heart. Sevena was exceptionally creative. She filled her home with handcrafted linens, ceramics, and paintings. For over fifty years, she exhibited her crafts at both the Waynesboro Exchange Club Fair and the Georgia-Carolina State Fair in Augusta, earning hundreds of blue ribbons and named as Outstanding Exhibitor several times. She also enjoyed gardening and made jellies and cobblers and canned produce from her garden.She took great joy in teaching her children and grandchildren crafting and cooking skills.
Sevena is survived by her sisters, Atta Lively Wade of Ocala, FL, Octama (Jimmy) Lively Poole of Columbia, SC; Katy (Chester) Lively Powell of Shell Bluff, and sisters-in-law Margie Lively of Shell Bluff, and Margaret Brinson, of Waynesboro, GA.She is also survived by her nine children: Edward (Anne) Weis, Jr. of Aiken, SC; Michael (Gail) Weis; Carol (Steve) O'Pry, and Jane Lewis, all of Shell Bluff; Deborah (Peter) Mack, of Warrenton, VA; Gregory Weis, of Evans, GA; Audrey (Richard) Smith of North Augusta, SC; Phillip Weis, of Corbin, KY; and Missey Weis Greene, of Shell Bluff. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Her grandchildren, named in order of their births, are Nicole (Ben) Snipes, Ashley (Michael) Greenwood, Chris Weis, Kellie (Kenny) Smith, Ginny (Brad) Siverhus, Michael Weis, Dr. Kevin Weis, Latoya Ball, Tiffany Ball, Brandon (Katie) Weis, Zachary (Danielle) Lewis, Natalie West, Sevena Lewis, Steven (Brooke) O'Pry, Danika James, Juliana Smith, David Weis, Patrick Smith, Thomas Weis, Macy Weis, Daniel Weis, Alexandra Stutt (Samuel), Geena Beyersdoerfer (Alexander), Rachel Greene, Krista Weis, Jacob Greene, Kimber Weis, and Tanner Weis. Great-grandchildren are Alexis Axman, Nicolas (Meranda) O'Pry, Emily Axman, Shaiteanna Ball, Donnell Kinnison, Spencer Siverhus, Anna Newman, Justin Jenkins, Michaela Weis, Owen Greenwood, Sam Weis, Jack Greenwood, Ethan Weis, Sadie Weis, Maddie Weis, Landon Flanagen, Ivy Lewis, Sara Cate Greenwood, Tripp O'Pry, Jonathan Weis, Ava Smith, Lucas O'Pry, Hazel Lewis, Hudson Weis and Connor O'Pry. Great-great grandchildren are Raleighn O'Pry, Athena Pennington, and Colton Pennington.
Visitation will be at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home in Waynesboro, GA on Tuesday, October 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service preceding visitation at 5:00 p.m.A funeral mass will be celebrated at First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro on Wednesday, October 25, at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Botsford Baptist Church Cemetery. Granddaughters will serve as pallbearers, with members of the Margaret Jones #27 United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Edmund Burke #3027 Daughters of the American Revolution serving as honorary pallbearers.
