Waynesboro, GA- After an extended illness, Sarah Elizabeth Kirby Williams passed away peacefully on December 22, 2013 at University Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was 85.
While living in Augusta, Sarah was active in Wheeless Road School PTA and Burns Memorial Methodist Church. After moving to Waynesboro, she was active in the PTA and with the scouts. She was the office manager and receptionist for Dr. J. Miller Byne. After retirement, Sarah worked for Lenora Bell at the Glamour Box. She was an avid bridge player and was always the perfect hostess. She found much happiness while visiting Hilton Head and the North Carolina mountains with family and friends.
Sarah is survived by her husband, James McCord Williams, whom she was happily married to for 66 years, and two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Williams and Sandra Lea Williams both of Augusta. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Ashlea Jenkins Crout (Kyle) of Mount Pleasant, SC and a grandson, Samuel McCord Jenkins of Augusta, and two great grandchildren William Bennett Crout and Caroline McCord Crout of Mount Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Warren Williams.
After cremation, there will be a private family burial at a later date at the Georgia War Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Empty Stocking Fund, c/o Augusta Chronicle, PO Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903, or to a charity of one's choice.
The family is most grateful for the loving and compassionate care Sarah received from the staff at Burke Medical Center, University Hospital's seventh floor Palliative Care doctors and staff, and University Healthcare Services Hospice.
