Mrs. Sandra C. Long, 74, entered into rest Wednesday, September 6, 2017. She was born in Millen and was a lifelong resident of Burke County. She graduated from SGA High School in 1961 and from Georgia Southern University in 1964 with BA in Education. Mrs. Long taught and tutored at SGA and also taught at Blakeney Elementary. She worked for First National Bank, Southern Bank, and served on the Southern Bank Board. She was an active member of the Sardis Baptist Church, taught the Challenge Sunday School and was the pianist for over 40 years, which was a huge part of her life of service to God.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry C. Long of Sardis; her children, Michelle Hargrove and husband Rickey of Millen, Tonya Dixon and husband Chip of Sardis, and Sandi Clark and husband Eric of Appling, GA; step-children, Cleve Long and wife Allison of Buford, GA and Lisa Sherrill and husband Glenn of Charlotte, N.C.; her brothers, Billy Chivers and wife Lucille of Port St. John. FL and Mac Chivers and wife Marie of Sylvania; her sister, Sally Holland and husband Albert of Waynesboro; her grandchildren, Dylan Hargrove, Casie Hargrove, Garrett Dixon, Cole Clark, and Asher Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2017, at the Sardis Baptist Church with the Reverend Nick Bates, Reverend Bill King, and Reverend Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Sardis Baptist Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Challenge Sunday School Class and Dr. Bonnie Jenkins.
