Waynesboro-Robert "Scott" Gay, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep, August 27, 2015 while vacationing with his family in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Mr. Gay was a native and longtime resident of Burke County. Shortly after his marriage to Sylvia they moved to Savannah for two years while Scott worked for the railroad. Upon returning to Waynesboro he was employed with Perfection Products where he served as vice-president of sales. He also was employed with M&S Chemical Company before founding and co-owning S&S Distributing in 1988 and retiring in 2002.
Scott was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro and was a fifty year plus member with perfectattendance of the Waynesboro Rotary Club and held the position of Membership Chair for many years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member and past-president of the Waynesboro Country Club, an avid golfer and recorded 6 hole in ones over his years of play.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Sylvia Leard Gay and his sister, Billie Brabham.
Surviving are, his sons, Scott M. Gay and wife, Tammy and Paul A. Gay all of Waynesboro; his sister, Martha Cooper of Waynesboro, his companion and close family friendMartha DeLaigle of Brooklet; his grandchildren, Bobby and Rusty Gay and Aubrey Lynn and Ashlee Elizabeth Gay. Also Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, August 31, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 in the DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Chapel with the Dr. G. Al Wright and Reverend Jerry Sharpe officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ways Baptist Church Cemetery in Stellaville, Georgia.
Active Pallbearers will be his grandson, Bobby Gay, as well as Chip Barefield, John McDonald, Jimmy Jones, Lee Webster, and Bud North.
