Girard, GA – Mr. R.L. Flakes, 86, entered into rest Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at his home. He was born on October 11, 1928 in Girard to the late Marvin and Malvia Flakes. Mr. Flakes was a farmer, painter, and founder/co-owner of the Pork Place in Girard. He was a long time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, Nascar, and telling tall tales.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Flakes; son, Tony Flakes; three brothers, Lewis, Jesse, and Rufus Flakes; his sister, Nora Munger; and a great granddaughter, Aniston Zipperer.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Flakes (Cathy) of Waynesboro, and Jerry Flakes (Teresa) of Sardis; two daughters, Patricia Jarvis (David) of Swainsboro, and Sharon Zipperer of Girard; a daughter in law, Janice Flakes of Millen; seventeen grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, November 20 at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, November 21 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Girard. Pastor Greg Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Preston Conner, James Gordy, Charles Dixon, William Cox, Grady Mobley, Henry Glisson, and Stan Hillis. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Stoney Bluff Coon Club.
