Sardis, GA - Richard E. Johnson, 56, entered into rest Thursday, November 5, 2009.He was born in Burke County on April 21, 1953 to the late Willie "Zeke" Minus Johnson and Rosa Lee Widener Johnson.He was a self-employed contractor in Burke County for many years.He was of the Methodist faith and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, S. Jennie Johnson; three sons, Richard Jeremy Johnson of Girard, GA, Alan Brent Johnson and Daniel Tracy Johnson, both of Sardis, GA; two sisters, Hazel Hurst (Wayne) of Rincon, GA and Linda Crews (Terry) of Hephzibah, GA; two grandchildren, Jonathan Tyler Johnson and Bryanna Lexi Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 8, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 9, at Sardis Baptist Church.Rev. Steve Sirmons and Rev. Mark Joyner will officiate.Interment will follow at Corinth Christian Church Cemetery in Girard, GA.Pallbearers will be Bob Mallard, Bobby McKinney, Robert Williford, Jerry Johnson, Rodney Braswell, Fred Hargrove, Mack Hillis, Stan Smith, and Bob Osborne.The family and pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church by 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

Flowers are being accepted; however, memorials may be made to Sardis Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 280, Sardis, GA30456.
