Raymond Bonnie Brookins, 87, entered into rest Tuesday, September 3, 2024. He was born in Burke County to the late Myrtle and Bonnie Hawkins Brookins and has been a lifelong resident. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Raymond worked as a plant manager for Talley-Corbett Box Company for 19 years; afterwards, he became a deputy with the Burke County Sheriff’s Department, retiring after 23 years of service as a Lieutenant. He did some farming on the side. He enjoyed coon hunting, farming, tending to the cows, riding horses, and riding the roads. He loved his family very much. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, two sisters, Eloise Fries and Jewel Banks.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rose Brookins; six children, Wade Brookins (Karla) of Waynesboro, Sharon Sigafoes (Ron) of Augusta, Kathy Brown (David) of Waynesboro, Johnny Brookins (Sherryl) of Waynesboro, Donna Herndon of Sardis, and Michael Spencer (Christi) of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Frankie Taylor of Waynesboro; Mr. Tracy Williams, who was like a son to him, of Sylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Saturday, September 7 at the funeral home. Memorial Services will be held 2:00pm Sunday, September 8 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Shyrock and Greg Coursey officiating.
Remembrances may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
