Waynesboro, Ga.- Paul W. Purkey, Jr., 65, entered into rest suddenly on Friday, April 10, 2009 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. A native of Maryland, he was born November 24, 1943 to the late Paul W. Purkey, Sr. and Maymie Ramsey Purkey. Paul was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Vietnam. He worked as Transportation Director for the Burke County School System, and then as an Ag Salesman at Tractor Supply Co. in Augusta. Paul was a member of Fairhaven Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. "Robby" Purkey, and a sister, Frances Maynard.
Mr. Purkey is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Elizabeth F. Purkey; son, Michael Paul Purkey, of Waynesboro; brother, James Purkey (Marian), of Hephzibah; two sisters, Helen Ann Maynard (Bill), and Betty Carol, both of Augusta, brother in law, Robert M. Fulcher (Genie), of Waynesboro, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the home of Robert Fulcher (Herndon Rd.).
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 4 pm Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Magnolia Cemetery, Waynesboro, Ga.Rev. Henry Erwin and Rev. Wayne Dixon will be officiating. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the graveside. Flowers are being accepted.
