Waynesboro/Hephzibah, GA - Mr. Palmer L. Flakes, 76, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at University Hospital after a brief illness.He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Hendley Flakes, and a brother, LeRoy Flakes.Mr. Flakes owned Flakes Bar-B-Que for over 25 years and also retired from Burke County Road Department.He farmed for a number of years, and most recently delivered the Augusta Chronicle newspaper.He was a devoted family man who was loved and cherished by all who knew him.
He is survived by a daughter, Kay Flakes Kirkland and son-in-law, Sebie Kirkland, of Hephzibah; two grandchildren, Sebie Kirkland, II of Sumter, SC and Brandy Burch (Charlie) of Millen, GA; two foster nieces, Angie Hendley of Millen and Donna Grunwald of Waynesboro; sisters, Mildred Thompson of Hiltonia, Dorothy McCullough, Faye Herrington, and Betty Oglesby, all of Waynesboro, and Nell Black of Girard; and brothers, Douglas Flakes of Hephzibah and Jim and John Flakes of Waynesboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at DeLoach Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in the Chapel of DeLoach Funeral Home with Harry Coursey and Greg T. Coursey officiating.Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Russell Flakes, James Flakes, James Thompson, Shawn Black, Greg T. Coursey, Gary Flakes, Michael Oglesby, Robert McCullough, Britt Herrington, and Don Redd.
