Octama (Oct) Lively Poole, 84, of Columbia, SC, wife of 63 years to James David Poole(Jimmy), entered into Glory, on Feb 1st, 2:10am, 2018 with joy on her face at home, with family. Octama is the daughter of the late James Thaxter Lively and Julia Verlinder Smith Lively, of Shell Bluff, Ga. Preceding her in death are her sisters, Evelyn Daisy (Ebba) Lively Barefield, Julia Dorothy (Juliette) ("Judy") Lively Dickey, Sevena (Seb) Lively Weis; her brothers, John "Louis" Lively, "Ashton" Alexander Lively, "Hugh" Miller Lively, "Keely" Otto Lively, Quartus Urbane (Q.U.) Lively, "Van" Zandt Lively, and "Yonce" Thaxter Lively.
Octama was born & raised in Shell Bluff, Waynesboro, Ga. Following college, she worked at AAA in Augusta, Ga where she met Jimmy Poole and they were married at the YWCA on Greene St. Mr. and Mrs. Poole resided in in Fayetteville, NC (Ft Bragg) and Charleston, SC, planting final roots in Columbia, SC. Both were very active members at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church where Octama taught Sunday school in the Youth Department and lead a large Woman's Sunday School class for many years. Octama was an avid leader in Columbia serving as President of the following organizations:
The SC Landscape Critics Club, SC Garden Club Council of Greater Columbia; overseeing 88 Garden Clubs, Saint-Paulia Garden Club, EAC & DIA Study Garden Clubs, Junior Woman's Club of Columbia and Red Stocking Review.Octama was awarded "Young Woman of the Year" Columbia and Listed in "Who's Who of Young Women of America -1965". She was an Accredited Master Flower Show Judge; judging State & County Fairs for many years. She was Co- Chair of the S.C. Bi- Centennial Garden Club Convention and Judged- S.C. Welcome Centers. Octama was constantly broadening her education and became a Certified Interior Designer. She was certified as a teacher in many National Bible Study Programs. She attended classes at Columbia International University in Lay Counseling and enjoyed counseling many God brought to her. She owned and operated the Shepherd's Corner Christian Bookstore for over 15 years.
She took great joy in teaching her children & grandchildren crafting, flower arranging and cooking skills. Her greatest JOY in Life was sharing the LOVE of her Savior, Jesus Christ, the Only Way to Heaven. And her greatest Passion in Life was studying God's Word & awaiting the Rapture & 2nd Coming of the Lord. Although her Spirit is with Jesus; Her Body will wait peacefully at Botsford Baptist Cemetery until the Rapture of the Saints.
Octama is survived by her 90 yr old Devoted Husband, JamesDavid "Jimmy" Poole and her Sisters; Atta Lively Wade of Ocala, FL, Katy(Chester) Lively Powell of Shell Bluff, and Sisters-in-Laws; Margie Lively of Shell Bluff & Margaret Brinson, of Waynesboro, GA. She is also survived by her 2 children: Pamela (John) Poole-Lively Machino of Lexington, SC & Shell Bluff, Ga; David Nathan (Leah) Poole of Blythewood, SC.She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Her grandchildren, named in order of their births, are Tamela Elaine Machino, Natalie Lane Poole (Matthew) Evans, James "Jimmy" Hayden Machino, Nathan Jordan (Lydia) Poole, Jonathan David (Debra) Rogers, and Meredith Garner Poole (Andrew) Higgins.
Great-grandchildren are "Raychel" Makinda, "Ashlynn" Livelyann Scarborough, "Makenzie" Evans, "Riley" Evans, "Hayden" Jameson Machino, "Emily" Anne Marie Rogers, "Cohen" Austin Machino, "Laken" Cannon Machino, "Tyler" Evans, and "Ethan" Raymond Matthew Rogers.Great-great grandchild is "Noalyn" Makinda-Martinez.
She leaves her Undying LOVE & PRAYERS to all, including her many Lively, Smith & Poole Nieces & Nephews and Friends.
