Waynesboro, GA - Mr. Billie Michael Holman, 84, entered into rest on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Brentwood Terrace in Waynesboro, Georgia.Born in Kingston, Tennessee on November 29, 1925, to the late America Howard, he was later adopted by the late Clarence Holman and Mollie Rose Holman of Springfield, Tennessee.He graduated from Springfield High School, joined the United States Navy in 1943, and served in the Italian Campaign and at Normandy as an underwater demolitions "Frogman" in the unit that would eventually become the Navy Seals.He returned to the States and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology ("Georgia Tech") where he received a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1953.Following a long career in Atlanta as a mechanical contractor, he retired as a startup engineer in the nuclear industry.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Eleanor Bell Holman; his sisters, Genevieve Savage, Elizabeth Estes, and Ianthe Dodge; and his brother, Larry Ricketts.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Holman Reeves (Jim) of Midville, GA; his sons, David Michael Holman (Jane) of Watkinsville, GA, and Patrick Francis Holman of Cumming, GA; and his three grandchildren, Katie Reeves, Cory Holman, and Jessica Holman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16, at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home.Family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
