Mikell Gene Brantley

September 26, 1969 — January 10, 2025

Mikell Gene Brantley entered into eternal rest on January 10, 2025, at the age of 55. He was a graduate of Jenkins County High School and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Georgia College & State University. With an unmatched work ethic, Mikell was a dedicated employee of Southern Bank for 32 years, serving many positions at various locations. He also worked as a bookkeeper for Bi-Lo in both Millen and Waynesboro for many years. Additionally, he was one of the cornerstones of Burke Perk in Waynesboro for 10 years, often the first face greeting guests. Mikell had a fervor for music, especially rock & roll, and he was an enthusiastic patriot with an unquenched thirst for history. Above all Mikell loved his family and had an enduring faith in the Lord that was palpable during his recent courageous battle with illness.

Mikell was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell P. Brantley, Sr. and Jeannette Sapp Brantley-Turner as well as Wendell P. Brantley, Jr., Glenda B. Brantley, and Marty Jo W. Brantley. He is survived by his siblings, Russell Brantley (Connie), Deborah B. Salter (Greg), Mike Turner (Shannon), and Sherry T. Kilgore; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends, none more beloved than his life-long friend, Casey Rupp (Missy).

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, January 13. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00am Tuesday, January 14 with burial to follow at Burke Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Mikell’s nephews and cousins: Joshua Brantley, Jeremiah Brantley, Jonathan Brantley, Joseph Brantley, Michael Mincey, Thomas Kelly, Kyle Turner, Brent Turner, Stephen Day, Brad Kilgore, Eric Sapp, Ray Sapp, Jimmy Sapp, Roger Sapp, Ernest Lanier, Joseph Law, and Jack Welch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mikell’s Southern Bank family.
