Sardis, GA - Mrs. Mary Mead Roberts, 95, died Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation after an extended illness.
Mrs. Roberts was a life-long resident of Burke County and a member of Sardis United Methodist Church where she served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Treasurer, and President of the United Methodist Women.Mrs. Roberts was a member and past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Sardis Chapter 382.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her sons Howell Rayford (Ann) Roberts, Thomson, GA, and Loy Ronald (Carole) Roberts, Cocoa, FL.She is also survived by a sister, Jackie M. (Douglas) Robbins of Hattiesburg, MS, and a brother, Gordon D. (Virginia) Mead of Waynesboro, GA; sisters-in-law Hazel B. Mead of Midville, GA, Annie Roy Q. Mead of Waynesboro, GA, and Clifford R. Saxon of Midville, GA; four grandchildren, Kathy (Mark) Barrett, Matthew (Ari) Roberts, Ron (Jenn) Roberts, and Kim (Allen) Phillips, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, L. Rayford Roberts; parents, John Gordon Mead and Martha Etta Lovett Mead; sisters, Minnie M. Jenkins, Christine M. Tanner, Martha Ann M. Daniel and Mildred M. O'Pry; brothers, Thomas H. Mead, Robert L. Mead, and Lovett E. Mead; and grandson, Eric Roberts.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Sardis United Methodist Church with Rev. Janet Odegaard officiating. Bural will follow at St. Mark Cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews Tommy Mead, Randall Jenkins, Joe Mead, Gene Mead, Eddie Daniel, Gordon Daniel, Steve O'Pry, and Bill Tanner.
Honorary pallbearers are Gregg Ellison, Ray Chandler, Norman Elliott, Jr., Hubert Reddick, Grady E. Dixon, Arthur Long, Helen Kirchner, Harriett Dixon, Beverly Plevnic, Betty Robinson, Barbara Hamilton, members of Sardis United Methodist Women, and members of Order of the Eastern Star, Sardis Chapter 382.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home, 220 East 6th Street, Waynesboro, GA.
