Atlanta, Ga.- Mary P. Hopkins, 68, entered into rest Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Vista Care Hospice in Atlanta. She was born in Waynesboro on August 17, 1940 to the late Mr. & Mrs. H.C. Hopkins. She grew up in Waynesboro then moved to Charlotte, NC where she spent most of her life. She was a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte and was a member of the Phi Mu Sorrority. She then began her teaching career where she was a kindergarten teacher and 3rd grade teacher for many years. Mrs. Hopkins was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1987 and retired in 1992. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Enon C. Hopkins and Henry C. Hopkins, Jr., and a niece, Mary Catherine Hopkins.
She is survived by her daughter, Ashley McClain (Brian), of Martinez; two grandsons, Griffin & Trent McClain; two sisters in law, Virginia Hopkins & Kitty Hopkins; five nephews, Henry C. Hopkins III (Lenn), Bill Hopkins (Liz), Enon Hopkins, Jr. (Cay), Bob Hopkins (Kathy), and Jim Hopkins; seven great nephews, Enon Hopkins III, Robert Hopkins, Walker Hopkins, William Hopkins, Henry C. Hopkins IV, Knox Hopkins, and Jim Hopkins.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 at Magnolia Cemetery, Waynesboro. Rev. Sam Vernon will be officiating.
