Waynesboro, GA - Mary Elizabeth Kissam Evans entered into the Lord's rest on Thursday morning, July 23, 2009, in her beloved hometown of Waynesboro, GA.She was born in Embree, SC on August 31, 1921 to Luther Clarence Kissam and Mary Annie Swearinger Kissam.The family moved to Waynesboro when she was a junior in high school.She married William F. Evans, Jr. on February 7, 1942.They were married for 32 years, and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1974.She was also preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Catherine Michelle Miller.She worked for the department of Agriculture for over 20 years until retirement in 1985.After retirement, she was very active in the Town and Country Women's Club, serving as one of their presidents, and also the Concert Association.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as worship chairman for several years.

She is survived by her five children:Mary Evans Garner (Claude) of Gainesville, GA, William F. Evans III (Kathy) of Evans, GA, Betsy Evans Cathell (Stan) of Atlanta, GA, Robert Kirkman Evans (Patricia) of Cummings, GA, and Catherine Evans Albea (Benny) of Augusta, GA; two brothers, Dr. Edward Bernard Kissam of St. Augustine, Fl and Dr. John Benjamin Kissam of Clemson, SC; 13 grandchildren:Claude F. Garner, Jr. (Gloria), William F. Evans IV, Barbara Ann Evans Hammett (Ashley), Geneva Hope Miller, William F. Garner (Jamie), Ashley Miller Vinson (Daniel), Stewart Welch Garner, Britt Cathell Poer (Henry), Matthew Kirkman Cathell, Mary Catherine Cathell, Kathryn Elizabeth Evans, Taylor Kirkman Evans, and Savannah Elizabeth Evans.She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Magnolia Cemetery, Waynesboro, GA.Reverend Henry Erwin and Rev. Tom Oliver will officiate.The family will receive friends immediately after the ceremony at the graveside.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 420, Waynesboro, GA30830.
