Mary Kelly Cox, 77, of Grovetown, Ga., died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the University Hospital in Augusta following an extended illness.
Her funeral service will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Marvin United Methodist Church in Martinez with the Rev. Elizabeth Ackerman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Augusta.
Mary, affectionately known as "Mama" by her children and "Granny K" by her grandchildren was born Dec. 26, 1937 in Parkersburg, W. Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hazel Pilcher and Emmett Edmond Baker Sr., a daughter Charlotte Psyche Kelly, her husband and father of her children, Ronald Rudolph Kelly, and husbands, G.H. Kinney and John Malcolm "Mac" Cox, and grandson Timothy James "Jamie" Taylor.
She is survived by her three children, Bonnie Kelly Taylor and her husband, Harry Edward Taylor of Waynesboro; Samuel Timothy "Sam" Kelly and his wife, Angela Lynn "Angie," of Greenville, S.C.; and Caroline Kelly Hall and her husband James Leon "Jim" of Manchester, N.H.
Her grandchildren, Harry Edward (Kim) Taylor Jr. of Waynesboro, Maria Kelly (Carrick) Jones of Greenville, S.C., Jeffrey Hunter Wright of Quincy, Mass., Lauren Kelly Wright of Medford, Mass., Elizabeth Erin Kelly of Travelers Rest, S.C., Jena Hall Roma (Terry James) of Peabody, Mass., and Ryan James Hall of Lowell, Mass.
Great grandchildren, Codey Justus (Heather) Taylor of Graniteville, S.C., Alanha Katelyn Taylor of Aiken, S.C., Jacie Nicole Taylor, Timothy James Taylor II, Audora LeeAnn Chalker and Cameron Nicholas Chalker all of Waynesboro, Maddox Farr Jones and Paxton Samuel Jones of Greenville, S.C., Elijah Ismael Roma and Harper Jean Roma of Peabody, Mass.,
Great-great grandchildren, Addison Rae Taylor of Graniteville, S.C., and Trenton Ryan Conaway of Aiken, S.C.
A brother, Emmett Esmond Baker Jr. of Norfolk, Va.
Mary spent most of her adult life in the Augusta area. She graduated in her later years from Augusta Area Technical School as an LPN in 1994 and worked at the Burke County Hospital from 1993-2001.
An active member of Marvin United Methodist Church, she volunteered in the church clothes closet and the summer school lunch program, co-sponsored by the church. She was also a volunteer for Columbia County Cares.
She will always be remembered by her children as a loving mother, by her grandchildren as being the fun loving, red-headed granny and a loving, kind, giving person by her friends. She was a woman of deep faith and was not afraid to share the "gospel."
Pallbearers will be Sheldon LaFaye Taylor, James Willard Taylor Jr., Harry Edward Taylor Jr., Jeffrey Hunter Wright, Codey Justus Taylor, Timothy James Taylor II, Cameron Nicholas Chalker and Robert Lee Kelly.
