Waynesboro, GA –Mary Bell Wood Jenkins, age 83, went to her heavenly home Monday, March 3, 2014 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County who was born on July 5, 1930 to the late "Pres" and Bertha Wood. She was a bus driver, who was adored by all of the children, for nearly 20 years. Prior to that, she worked at the Burke County Training Center. Mary was of the Baptist faith. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland "Buddy" Jenkins; and 2 brothers, Joe Bill Wood, and William T. Wood.
She is survived by 6 children, Beverly J. Collier (the late Robert Collier) of Covington, Susan J. Greiner (John Richard "Ricky" Greiner) of Hephzibah, Chuck Jenkins of Waynesboro, Kim J. Leon (Luis Diaz Leon) of Metter, Kerin J. Armstrong (Scott W. Armstrong) of Blythe, and Kelli J. Fitzgerald (Matthew W. Fitzgerald) of Pooler; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Oliver of Springfield; several nieces and nephews; a longtime family friend who she thought of as a second son, Randy Skinner of Waynesboro; her care giver for many years, Lynn Dixon; and her beloved cat, Oreo.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, March 5 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be 2pm Thursday, March 6 at the funeral home. Rev. Earl Saxon will officiate. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ken Stephens, "Chu Chu" Garcia, James Morris, Russel Deas, Donnie Chance, and Jason McKerley.
