He was a member of First Baptist Church where his involvements included an Adult Sunday School teacher, served as a deacon and on the Board of Deacons, a member of the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Team, participated in numerous mission trips, and was a member of the Spares and Pairs Sunday School Class.He also held memberships with the Burke County Board of Health and the Millen Jaycees.He enjoyed woodworking and playing golf.
"The Putnam County High School Seniors of 1953 voted Marshall the Most Athletic, Most Versatile, Most Popular, and the Smartest.He lived up to those honors and more qualities that were not named.He will truly be missed by all."
He is survived by his wife, Emily D. G. Young; daughter, Marsha Lynn Young; Kate Werteoecki, a special granddaughter; brothers, Jesse "Jim" Young, William T. Young and his wife, Doris, Bennie T. Young and his wife, Donna, and Roy D. Y. Reid and his wife, Cheryl; three step-children; two special nieces, Pearl J. Kinlaw and Laura J. White; many other nieces and nephews; and "Little Man", his miniature toy poodle.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, at First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, with Dr. G. Al Wright, Jr. and Dr. Todd Ware officiating.Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Taylor, Tom Bugg, James Gay, Kevin Boothe, and the Putnam County High School Class of 1953.
