Mae G. Chalker

September 15, 1920 — February 4, 2010

Waynesboro, GA - Mae G. Chalker, 89, entered into rest on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Pineview Gardens Personal Care Home. Born in Spann, GA, on September 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Ellie Dewitt Glisson and Mattie Hermie Parish Glisson. In 1944, she married Roy Fletcher Chalker in Macon, GA. After WWII, they moved to Waynesboro, GA and bought The True Citizen newspaper. She was a member of local garden clubs and a member of the Women's Golf Association. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Roy F. Chalker, and six siblings.

She is survived by two sons, Roy F. Chalker, Jr. (Martha), of Augusta, and Phillip C. Chalker (Sandi), of Waynesboro; daughter-in-law, Kim Chalker; four granddaughters, AnneNeil Piccone (Chris), of Clearwater Beach, FL, Jennifer Williams (Casey), Megan Webber (Lucas), of Charlotte, NC, and April Schmidt (Bernie), of Cranston, RI; one sister, Patricia Stringer, of Tampa, FL; five great-grandchildren; helper and companion for many years, Lula Bell Bracely; and a close friend, Reba Parker.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 8, 2010, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church with The Reverend Kit H. Brinson officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dr. Ed Byne, Tat Thompson, Walt Seeger, Doug Day, Henry Hopkins, and Tommy Purser, and Usher, Fred Broome.

Friends may visit the family at the home, 516 Forest Drive, Waynesboro.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Wimberly House Ministries, P.O. Box 50, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
