Lovett Eugene “Gene” Mead, Jr., 65, passed away in Waynesboro on Monday, December 23, 2024. He was born on December 22, 1959, to the late Lovett E. Mead Sr. and Annie Roy Quick Mead and has lived his entire life in Burke County. As a truck driver for 46 years, Gene drove countless miles across this country. His strong work ethic was admired by many and taking care of his family was always his top priority. When he wasn’t on the road, he enjoyed morning coffee and conversation at A&W and watching Westerns, especially John Wayne, from the comfort of his recliner. He was quick to make a joke and his big personality will be missed by many. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Mead.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pamela Skinner Mead; three children, Monica Mead, Lovett E. Mead III “Trey”, and Zachary Mead; a grandson, Camden Mead; his mother, Annie Roy Mead; three siblings, Susan Riggs, Christy Mead, and Joe Mead (Mary Ann); a special aunt, Judy Babb; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial Services will be held 3:00pm Sunday, December 29 in the funeral home chapel with Bill Lively officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
