Waynesboro, Ga.- Lois Ward Story, long-time resident of Waynesboro and Augusta, passed away on November 26, 2008. She had recently moved to Colorado to be near her son and daughter-in-law.Hazel Lois Ward was born in Girard, Burke County, Georgia to Hugh Lamar Ward and Nina (Royal) Ward. She was married to Samuel Gaines Story of Waynesboro, Georgia on Dec. 26, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1949.

Lois retired from The Augusta Judicial Circuit Court in 1989 where she had worked for twenty- one years as a court reporter. She was a Saint Joseph Hospital volunteer and a member of the Augusta Opera Guild.She loved her friends and family, she enjoyed taking courses at Augusta College and bird watching. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a unique person with strength of character, and a determined spirit. Lois was always young at heart.

Survivors include her children: Harriet Ann Story of Mineral Point, Wisconsin and Paul Gresham Story, M.D. and wife Mary Nell of Montrose, Colorado; a sister, Evelyn Ward Gay and husband Brit Gay, M.D. of Decatur, Georgia; and sister- in- law, Mrs. Andrew (Emily) Pennington of Matthews, Georgia.

She is also survived by members of her beloved step-family: a son, William F. Story and wife Carol of Sedona, Arizona; and daughter- in- law, Mrs. Ben (Marjorie) Story of Waynesboro, Georgia.

Lois was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who always called her "Lois".

A memorial service in celebration of Lois' life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro, Georgia. Pastor Jim Knight will officiate. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 810 Myrick Street, Waynesboro.In lieu of flowers please remember Lois with a contribution to your favorite charity.
