Waynesboro, GA - Mrs. Lillie Mae "Lill" Sturdivant Chandler, 98, loving wife of the late Ralph L. Chandler and devoted mother and grandmother, entered into rest Tuesday, January 11, 2011.She was a lifelong resident of Burke County and an active member of the Sardis United Methodist Church in Sardis, GA for 76 years.She graduated with honors from the University of Georgia in 1934 where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.She was also a Charter Member of the Eastern Star for over 35 years.She enjoyed working in the Burke County School System as a teacher until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her twin sister, Willie Mae "Bill" Bargeron; a brother, Charlie Sturdivant; and a sister, Rhoda Dickey.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca C. Mobley and Eugenia C. Braswell; her grandchildren, Ginger Mobley Jenkins, George M. Mobley and his wife, Jamie, Jeff Braswell and his wife, Gloria, and Crystal Braswell.Great-grandchildren include Hannah R. Jenkins, Madison Mobley, Grant Mobley, T. J. Braswell, and Ethan Cohen Braswell.She has two surviving siblings, James Sturdivant and his wife, Gwen, and Sue Erwin and her husband, Stan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be conducted at Sardis United Methodist Church in Sardis, GA at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 13.The Reverend Steve Sirmons will officiate.Burial will follow at St. Marks Cemetery in Sardis, GA.Pallbearers will be George Mobley, Jeff Braswell, Roy Chandler, Jimmy Sturdivant, Roy Kirchner, and Shelton Brigham.
