Laura Sylvia White Hensley, born December 21, 1930, in Akron Ohio, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, in Waynesboro, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Carl Robert White and Edna Geiger White, of Akron, Ohio and Hawkinsville, GA. She married Edgar Randolph Hensley on August 12, 1950, in Rootstown, Ohio. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2023. Mrs. Hensley was a homemaker and bookkeeper/secretary. She was a member of First Baptist Church Waynesboro, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout leader, member of Richmond County Medical Society Alliance in Augusta, GA, Charter member of Town & Country Woman’s Club, Charter member of Burke County Woman’s Club, a member of East Tennessee Historical Society, a member of the Friends of Library-Waynesboro, and Edmund Burke Academy. She taught art classes, winning the Charlene Adair Member Art Award GAFWC in 1987, 1988, 1990, and 1991. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Randolph Hensley; two brothers, Robert Webb White and Roy James White; and step granddaughter, Erica Michelle Rowell Jones.
She is survived by her children, Debra Ann Hensley Rowell (Tommy) of Waynesboro, Barbara Elizabeth Hensley Howard of Augusta, and Craig White Hensley of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Donald Thomas Howard Jr. (Meredith) of Kennesaw, GA, Laura Kelly Howard Burns (Robert) of Glasgow, Scotland, Carrie Ann Rowell Sikes (Hud) of Waynesboro, Craig White (Whit) Hensley, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Grant Thomas Hensley of Columbia, SC, and Lillian Grace (Lilly) Hensley of Columbia, SC; great grandchildren, Hensley Ann Hamilton of Waynesboro, Donald Thomas (Tripp) Howard, III of Kennesaw, GA, Connor Michael Howard of Kennesaw, GA, Kole Sikes of Waynesboro, Minus Finn Sikes of Waynesboro, and Kaitlyn Savannah Burns of Glasgow, Scotland; a sister, Suzanne White Witt of Newborn, GA; a brother, Thomas Carl White of Hawkinsville, GA; step grandchildren, William Thomas Conner (Katherine) of Winder, GA, Winston Hugh Clayborne Conner (Kate) of Waynesboro, and Julia May Margaret Conner (Derek) of Appling, GA; step great grandchildren, William Thomas Kent Conner of Winder, GA, Clark Alexander Conner of Waynesboro, and Briggs Thomas Watson Dent of Appling, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
