Katherine "Honey" Hill Lewis, wife of deceased Waynesboro Attorney Preston B. Lewis, Jr., died May 2, 2014, at the age of 82.She was the daughter of George W. Hill and Katherine Virginia Dougherty Hill. Born October 25, 1931, in Spalding County, Georgia, Honey graduated from Valdosta High School and the University of Georgia. While at the UGA, Honey was a member of Chi Omega sorority and married Preston B. Lewis, Jr. on September 10, 1953, in Lowndes County, Georgia.She was an avid bridge player and devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro.
Honey is survived by her four children, Preston Brooks Lewis, III (Carol), Clifford Ellis Lewis (Sonya), both of Waynesboro, GA, Julian Carlton Lewis (Janet) of Greenville, SC, and Katherine Virginia Lewis Jones (Willis) of Warner Robins, GA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren:Julia Katherine "Kitty" Lewis, Laney Elizabeth Lewis, Gray Ansley Lewis, Coleman Ellis Lewis, Brooks Carlton Lewis, Allison Katherine Lewis, Julia Lindsay Lewis, Julianna Carlton Lewis, Taylor Gray Jones, Katherine Virginia Jones and Jessie Willis Jones, III.
A Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church social hall one hour prior to the service. Rev. Craig Hutto and Rev. Jimmy Cason will officiate.
The family is especially grateful for the care and compassion Honey received from friends, caregivers and Regency Hospice in recent months.
