Joyce Barefield Hayes

Joyce Barefield Hayes, 91, entered into rest Tuesday, September 3, 2024. She was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County. She was a member of Green’s Cut Methodist Church and the Sunshine Ladies. Joyce was a great cook, enjoyed genealogy, and loved tending to her flowers and garden. She was a dedicated Christian woman. She was a devoted wife of 73 years, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Evelyn Barefield; her husband, Durwood Hayes; a brother, Al Barefield; and a sister, Gladys Stone.

She is survived by two sons, Woody Hayes (Sarah) of Waynesboro and Randy Hayes (Debbie) of Thomson; two brothers, Jimmie Barefield (Sally) and Johnny Barefield (Sherrie) both of Waynesboro; a sister, Elizabeth Gossett (Scott) of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00pm Friday, September 6 in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alan Williams, Bill Harrell, Ricky Oliver, Mike Barefield, Chris Barefield, and John Barefield.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sunshine Ladies.

Remembrances may be made to Green’s Cut Methodist Church.
