Waynesboro, GA.- Joseph Patrick Blackstone, Sr.,82, entered into rest Thursday, December 31, 2009 at University Hospital. Born in Richmond County on November 17, 1927, he was a son of the late Fred Sullivan Blackstone and Viola Inglett Blackstone. After many years of service, he retired form Babcock & Wilcox in Hephzibah. Mr. Blackstone was an avid hunter and fisherman who thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nettie Mae Perkins Blackstone, his second wife, Betty Stewart Blackstone, and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by seven children, Joseph Patrick Blackstone, Jr., of Waynesboro, Jeffery E. Blackstone (Judy), of Hephzibah, Michael Stewart (Donna), of Richmond Hill, Carla Cobb, Mickey Stewart (Sandra), Terri Williford (Tommy), all of Waynesboro, and Jerrell Bailey (John), of Douglas, GA. Surviving siblings include Mellie Morris, of Orlando, FL., Ruth Perry, of Waynesboro, George Blackstone, of Hephzibah, and Hattie Newman (Chic), of Waynesboro, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, Waynesboro, GA. Rev. Keith Alderman will officiate. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, GA. Pallbearers will be Josh Blackstone, Jeremy Blackstone, Chris Stewart, Bill Cobb, Bobby Cobb, and Jamey Williford. The family and pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church by 1:30 pm.
