Joseph Barkley Montgomery Iii

Mr. Joseph Barkley Montgomery III, 79, of Waynesboro, Georgia, husband of Alice Allen Montgomery, entered into eternal rest Friday, December 9, 2022, His memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 515 S. Liberty Street at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 2:00pm in the parish hall.

Joe was born May 18, 1943, in Sheffield, Alabama, to Joseph Barkley Montgomery, Jr. and Susanna Morris Stanton Montgomery. He was a 1961 graduate of Westtown School in Westtown, Pennsylvania, having been raised in Maryville, Tennessee. Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in computer science from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. While attending Georgia Tech, his was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

He married his beloved wife, Alice Allen Montgomery, daughter of Billie Sapp Edenfield, on July 3, 1966, in Waynesboro. Joe retired from Alcoa after working for the company in Alcoa, Tennessee; Geelong, Australia; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and San Diego, California. Joe had a ready laugh and never met a stranger. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, golfing, and repairing computers and electronics for anyone who needed help.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his son Jay Montgomery and his wife Kara of Columbia, South Carolina, and his daughter Cynthia Georghiou-Goodale and her husband Aaron of Westlake Village, California. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Ally Montgomery, Stavros Georghiou and Hannah Montgomery. He absolutely loved to watch them pursue their passions on the stage, the soccer field, the golf course and the swimming pool.
