Joseph Richard Jenkins, 89, of Waynesboro, went home to his Lord and Savior on November 16, 2024. He was born on April 8, 1935, to the late Louis Vincent Jenkins and Claudia Brinson Jenkins. Richard lived life to the fullest and enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching the Braves and Nascar, golf, and spending time at the coast. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends. He was surrounded by family every Sunday for lunch after church at his home, a tradition his family will always cherish. Richard was affectionately known as “Pop” to his grandchildren, but the name stuck with almost everyone who knew him. Pop was so fun to be around and loved to share a laugh. His laugh was the best and was truly contagious. He had a nickname for everyone and just enjoyed people. Richard retired from the U.S. Army National Guard in 1995, and he was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, L.V. Jenkins.
Survivors include the love of his life and wife of 71 years, Bobbie Nell Jenkins; daughters, Deborah Ann Mobley, Donna G. English (Kenneth), Sheryl Jenkins Quick (David); grandchildren, Stan Mobley (Millie), Brian Mobley, Blaine Marshall, Neely Lee (Jackson), Ryan Quick (Melissa), and Lauren Hice (Tanner); great grandchildren, Millie Jane Mobley, Brin Mobley, Brooks Mobley, Noah Kate Mobley, Joe Mobley, Maddie Grace Holland, Kayson Marshall, Maddox Lee, Austyn Lee, Lila Cate Quick, Ella Anne Quick, Hank Hice, and Charley Hice; a much loved niece, Bonnie Jenkins and sister-in-law, Patricia Jenkins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 20, at Rosemont Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Flowers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice and Vickey Bates.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rosemont Vision Fund.
