Girard- Mr. Joseph Dean "Joe" Chandler of Burke County, age 83, entered into rest Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at his home.
He was born and raised on a farm in rural Burke County. He moved away but always wanted to return to Burke County, which he and his family did in 1972. After his return to Burke County, he was employed with The Southern Company from 1975 until his retirement in 1997. Joe was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and an ordained deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all outside activities.
Joe had a ready smile, natural wit, and a Christian love for all people.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd S. Chandler and Martha Louise Chandler, his brother, Frank Chandler, and his sister, Mary Minor Burke.
Surviving are, his wife Jewel W. Chandler, his sons, Greg Chandler and wife Sherry and Jeff Chandler. Also he was blessed with five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Additional survivors are his brothers, Ray Chandler and wife Kathryn and Floyd S. Chandler, Jr. and wife Patricia.
Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Sardis Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Sardis Baptist Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Robert McMillan, Daniel McMillan, Joseph Chandler, Justin Chandler, Randy Barefield and J.R. Keen.
