Waynesboro, Georgia-Mr. John Perry Rollins, 90, of Waynesboro, GA husband of 54 years to Etta Johnson Rollins, entered into rest Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta, Georgia. Mr. Rollins was born in Gough, GA, the son of the late Daisy Coursey Rollins and Rufus E. Rollins, Sr. He was a life-long resident of Burke County.He was of the Baptist faith. He farmed for many years and was well known and respected within the agricultural community. He found comfort knowing that he could worship his Lord without ever having to leave the fields and land that he loved so dearly. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army as a member of the 786th Military Police Battalion, Company D. During his active duty he received the Army Badge:Sharpshooter. He also had the distinct privilege of being chosen to serve with the Honor Guard when he was stationed off Staten Island in New York.
He is survived by three children: Rachel Boyd Brown (Bruce) of Augusta, Miriam Boyd Brooks (Jay) of Martinez and Steve B. Boyd (Monica) of Seoul, Korea; two grandchildren: Allison Brown of Augusta and Jason Salemi (Alison) of Augusta; and five great grandchildren: Jackson Owens, Ana Grace Owens, Brandon Salemi, Kenley Salemi and EmmaClaire Salemi. He is also survived by one sister, Sara Rollins DeLaigle and two sisters-in-law, Inez Rollins and Jean Rollins. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Pansy Rollins Burke, R.E. Rollins, Jr. and Dewey Rollins, and two brothers-in-law Grier Burke and Raymond DeLaigle.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to his beloved friend, Ray Disher, of Blythe who was so devoted in ensuring Mr. Rollins often visited the farm which provided him happiness and peace, and to his wonderful caregiver, Charlene Anderson, of Augusta.
The funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home, 842 North Liberty Street, Waynesboro on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harry Coursey and Sheriff Greg Coursey officiating. The internment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro. The pallbearers will be nephews, R. E. Rollins III, Nick DeLaigle, Mike Burke, Alan Rollins; friends, Sam Story and Dickie McClellan.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening, December 17, 2012 from
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home, 842 North Liberty Street, Waynesboro, Georgia.
