John Paul Cates, 36, entered into rest May 28, 2024. He was born in Augusta and has been a lifelong resident of Burke County. He attended Oasis Church. John Paul loved all things sports, whether it was playing them or coaching. He had a great sense of humor and was a kind soul, who wanted to help others in need. He was an amazing husband and the best father. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Doug and Nancy Cates; and his maternal grandparents, Bill and Margaret Owens.
He is survived by his wife, Morgan Bell Cates; a daughter, Saylor Cates; a son, Hayes Cates; his father, Paul Cates (Julie); his mother, Sandra Owens; a sister, Maggie Nehlsen; three brothers, Baxter Cates, Taylor Cates, and Mills Cates; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Monday, June 3 at Oasis Church in Hephzibah with Pastor Wesley Weatherford officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Chandler Johnson, Billy Taylor, Darvin Deason, Justin Chance, Chris Miser, and Jack Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paul Cates for the Cates Children’s College Fund, 509 Pine Needle Rd, Waynesboro, GA 30830.
