John Arthur Long, Sr., 78, entered into rest Thursday, September 2, 2021. He was a native and lifelong resident of Sardis. He was the owner operator of Long and Sons Minit Market and was a leader of the boy scouts. He has been a member of Sardis United Methodist Church for 63 years, where he led youth group and served in many different leadership positions. Arthur served a total of 17 years as a Councilman for the City of Sardis. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Long and Marie Long Muns; brother, Perry Long, Jr.; and sister, Annette Long Shoemaker.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Long; a son, John "Johnny" Arthur Long, Jr. (Tina) of Knoxville, TN; a daughter, Kelli Jenkins (Gene) of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bland (Matthew) of Sylvania, Jonathan Long (Claire) of Aiken, SC, Allyson Wade (Hagen) of Waynesboro, Tinley Jenkins of Waynesboro, and Will Jenkins of Waynesboro; three great grandchildren, Nash Bland, Hudson Bland, and Avery Elizabeth Long; and his beloved dog, Pepper.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, September 7 at St. Marks Cemetery in Sardis with Rev. Roger Lane and Rev. Frank Waits officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Sardis Methodist Church until 1:00pm.
Remembrances may be made to the Sardis United Methodist Church or First United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
