John Larry Parrish, 64 of Sardis, GA departed this life on Friday, April 25, 2014 peacefully at home with loved ones by his side from an extended heart condition, to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mr. Parrish was born on November 28, 1949, in Waynesboro, GA. He was a beloved member of East Burke Baptist Church of Sardis, GA. He worked as a security guard for Plant Vogtle but was a master carpenter most all of his life. He was very artistic and meticulous with each piece of wood that passed through his hands and always left his unique marks of talent on everything he created. He was of the Cherokee descent and loved to craft anything that pertained to the Indian culture and had a love for vintage cars.
The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Monday, April 28, 2014 at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home, 842 North Liberty Street, Waynesboro, GA 30830. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at East Burke Baptist Church, 6564 Hwy 24 South, Sardis, GA 30456 with Reverends Ernest Johnson & Bert Hickman officiating followed by interment at Sardis Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Parrish, Ray Johnson, Joshua Wood, Lewis Blackburn, James Tobias and Corey Reeves. Honorary Pallbearers will be J.W. Tobias, Norbert Tobias, Danny Lee Burke and Gene Henry.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rufus & Lillie Parrish, and siblings, Ralph Thompson, Katherine Ellison, Jesse Parrish, Linda Oglesby and Roy Parrish and 3 great-grandchildren Basil Galamb, Faith & Hope Galamb.
He is survived by his children June Johnson (Rev. Ernest) of Sardis, GA, John Parrish (Pamela) of Baton Rouge, LA and Crystal Weeks (Gary) of Girard, GA, his significant other Cookie Royal, grandchildren Chris Parrish, Heather Parrish, Ray Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Brooke Galamb, Kayla Weeks, Kolton Weeks, Kyle Weeks, Kevin Weeks, Kasen Parrish and nine great-grandchildren.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to assist the family with funeral expenses and may be done so by contacting Rev. Ernest Johnson.
