Waynesboro, GA - John Anthony Karnes, Sr., 84, entered into rest on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Burke Medical Center.He was born in Cambria County, Pennsylvania on June 13, 1924.He retired from the VA Hospital in Augusta.He was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict and a member of Green's Cut United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his two sons, Eddie Lewis Karnes and John Anthony Karnes, Jr.; his two step-sons, Ken Mishoe and Jimmy Mishoe; his three step-daughters, Carla Newman, Lana Smith, and Jerri Mock; his two grandchildren, Lillie Quinn Karnes and Ellison Lane Karnes; and his nine step-grandchildren, Frank Mishoe, Timothy Scott Mock, Alan Smith, Tammy Smith, Jeffery Mishoe, Wesley Mishoe, Mickey Mishoe, Lacie Mishoe, and McKenzie Karnes.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Green's Cut United Methodist Church with Dr. Francis Ford officiating.Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta.Pallbearers will be Jerry Sharpe, Scott Gay, Nathan Black, Jr., Dwayne Cunningham, Johnathan McGahee, and Jimmy Mills.The family and pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church by 10:30 a.m.
